Recruitment & Selection, Section 4 - Advertisements
The advertisement is the first thing a potential employee will see and it needs to attract them and generate enough interest for them to make further enquiries and submit an application. An advert should be brief so as not to be too expensive yet give enough information about the job and the person required to attract the right applicants and allow others to de-select themselves. The University has a ‘house style’ to ensure the University brand is maintained.
There have been recent changes to the Government's immigration policy which has introduced a new Points Based Immigration System (often referred to as PBIS) The new Tier 2 arrangements which replace the old Work Permit system will have the greatest impact on the recruitment of staff at the University. In order to appoint staff from outside of the European Economic Area the university must pass the Resident Labour Market test by proving we cannot fill the post with a resident worker. In order to comply with the Border and Immigration Agency (BIA) regulation changes from December 2009 all posts which would be eligible to apply for a Certificate of Sponsorship if a non-EU candidate was successful must be advertised for a minimum period of 4 weeks. This includes all Academic and research posts and other posts above grade 6 which will be considered on an individual basis.
The University’s Welsh Language Policy requires the use of bilingual advertisements in all of the Welsh publications, and the University mainly uses the Western Mail and the South Wales Evening Post.
It is important that how and where the vacancy will be advertised is considered carefully. All posts are advertised on the University's website and in the Job Centre Plus and further options include the printed local or national media, specialist publications or websites.
For all academic and related positions jobs.ac.uk is used automatically as this is free and is widely used in the academic community for information on how to advertise on jobs.ac.uk please see the attached link http://www.jobs.ac.uk/recruiters/howtoadvertise
Advertising in the printed media can be expensive so cost is an important consideration. An estimate of costs for the main publications can be provided on request from the Recruitment Team.
