Swansea University gathers and monitors anonymised Equality data on all nine protected characteristics. Equality monitoring is very important, for several reasons:
- monitoring data is reported on each year and trends and changes are noted over time
- monitoring data helps to inform policies and procedures in the University
- monitoring data shows the breakdown of students at the University, and helps to ensure that everybody is well represented, for example Committee membership
Although it may not seem that this information is relevant to your employment or studies, it helps the University improve various initiatives, communication methods, projects and more. Read more on our monitoring page.
The university has an Equality Committee whose purpose is to monitor equality and consider ways of extending equal opportunities at Swansea University in relation to employment and student issues. The Equality Committee reports directly to the University Management Board. Read more about the Equality Committee here.
