This is the end of the process when the best applicant has been selected and needs to be appointed.

When the decision has been made on who to apooint there are things which need to be considered:

  • Is there a reserve candidate?
  • what salary should we offer?
  • What is the likely starting date?
  • What pre-employment checks need to be made?

Post Interview follow up

Once the selection decision has been reached, the Chair of the panel/Head of Department / College / School in conjunction with the Business Partner will agree on the salary point to be offered to the successful candidate, taking into account all relevant information.  It will be necessary to refer to the Starting Salary Guidance   If the agreement is to appoint above the minimum of the scale the attached Starting Salary form needs to be completed.

Where a Human Resources Department representative is not present, no offer should be made until a salary has been agreed with the Human Resources Department.  The Business Partner will then contact, as soon as possible, the successful candidate to make an offer of employment.

The Appointment

The Human Resources Advisor will carry out all of the follow up work from the interviews.  This means making the offer, contacting unsuccessful candidates and issuing the contract of employment.

The Human Resources Advisor will also keep the Head of Department or College / School informed of start dates and any other issues.

It will be made clear to the successful applicant whether the offer is conditional upon receipt of any of the following:

  1. evidence of relevant qualifications
  2. receipt of satisfactory references
  3. eligibility to work in the UK
  4. a satisfactory medical examination
  5. a satisfactory DBS check

All documentation relating to the recruitment process needs to be returned to the Human Resources Department.

Following confirmation from the successful candidate that they intend to accept the appointment, unsuccessful candidates will be notified of the outcome of their application.

The Human Resources Department will endeavour to contact all candidates, successful and unsuccessful, as soon as practically possible.
