Professor Lieu studied Theology at the Universities of Durham and of Birmingham, where she did a doctorate on the Second and Third Epistles of John. Professor Lieu has taught at The Queen's College Birmingham, King's College London, and Macquarie University Sydney, and is currently Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge.
Professor Lieu's principal publications have been on the Johannine literature, including I, II, III John: A Commentary (Westminster John Knox, 2008), and on the separation between Judaism and Christianity and the formation of Christian identity: Image and Reality (T&T Clark, 1996); Neither Jew nor Greek? (T&T Clark, 2002); Christian Identity in the Jewish and Greco-Roman World (Oxford, 2004). Professor Lieu also co-edited the Oxford Handbook of Biblical Studies (Oxford, 2006).
