Welsh Domiciled Students

Students should apply for their funding as soon as possible after applying for a course.  Once you have applied for your funding, you will be assessed for support based on your household income.

You can apply for the following:

  • Tuition Fee Grant
  • Tuition Fee Loan
  • Maintenance Loan
  • Assembly Learning Grant
  • There may be other supplementary grants available depending on your circumstances

English Domiciled Students

Students should apply for their funding as soon as possible after applying for a course.  Once you have applied for your funding, you will be assessed for support based on your household income.

You can apply for the following:

  • Tuition Fee Loan
  • Maintenance Loan
  • Maintenance Grant
  • There may be other supplementary grants available depending on your circumstances

Scottish & Northern Irish Students

Students should apply for their funding as soon as possible after applying for a course.  Once you have applied for your funding, you will be assessed for support based on your household income.

Scottish domiciled students can apply for the following:

  • Tuition Fee Loan
  • Student Loan for Living Costs
  • Student's Outside Scotland Bursary
  • If eligible for the Student's Outside Scotland Bursary you may also be eligible for the Additional Loan
  • There may be other supplementary grants available depending on your circumstances.

Northern Irish domiciled students can apply for the following:

  • Tuition Fee Loan
  • Maintenance Loan
  • Maintenance Grant
  • There may be other supplementary grants available depending on your circumstances.

NHS and Social Work Funding

NHS-funded courses available at Swansea University are Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic Science and any Clinical Physiology courses, i.e. Cardiology, Audiology and Respiratory Physiology.

Students will be eligible to apply for the following funding:

  • A reduced rate, non means tested Maintenance Loan paid by the Student Loans Company
  • Non Means Tested Grant paid by the NHS
  • Means Tested Bursary paid by the NHS
  • Tuition Fees will be covered by the NHS
  • There may be other supplementary grants available depending on your circumstances. These are paid by the NHS

Students will apply to the NHS Awards Unit for the grant and bursary.

The Maintenance Loan will be available from your funding award body.

Social Work students should apply for their funding as soon as possible after applying for a course.

 Welsh Domiciled Students are able to apply for the following:

  • Tuition Fee Grant
  • Tuition Fee Loan
  • Assembly Learning Grant
  • Maintenance Loan
  • Social Work Bursary (you will not be eligible for this if you are in receipt of financial incentive to train from your employer)
  • Practice Learning Opportunity Allowance (PLOA)
  • There may be other supplementary grants available depending on your circumstances.

To apply for the Social Work Bursary and the PLOA you need to apply to the Care Council for Wales.

There are a limited number of Social Work Bursaries available; therefore we would advise you to apply as soon as possible.

To apply for the tuition fee support and maintenance loan you will need to apply through the Student Finance Wales website.
