Research at the Institute of Mass Spectrometry
Swansea University has long been established as a centre of excellence for mass spectrometry, with the siting of the Royal Society Research Unit here in the 1970s followed by the Mass Spectrometry Research Unit, the EPSRC National Mass Spectrometry Service Centre in the 1980s and now the EPSRC UK National Mass Spectrometry Facility.
Currently, there are thirteen academic and support staff, eight of whom are wholly supported by direct research council funding. IMS core activities include research programmes involving more than a dozen Swansea postgraduates and postdoctoral workers. Through the facility, the research of Biological Sciences and the Medical School, staff are also supported by collaborative and contract support research programmes.
