Partners4LifeScience

On Wednesday 12th May 2010, the ILS hosted Partners4LifeScience - a brokerage event aimed at bringing together academia, industry and the NHS.

Institute of Life Science hosts its first brokerage event

On May 12th over 100 guests from business, academia and the NHS gathered at the ILS for a day of business networking and presentations.

The ‘Partners 4 Life Science Event’ was organised to bring together the worlds of academic research, business – particularly Welsh SMEs in the bioscience and healthcare sector - and the NHS. It was also timed to provide a natural follow-on to BioWales, the Welsh Assembly Government’s flagship event for the sector taking place in March each year.

With a programme of 12 speakers and 210 meeting requests to fit in, it was one of the busiest days the Institute of Life Science (ILS) has ever seen.  After an official welcome from Professor Gareth Morgan the event swung into action with speakers from across the region discussing topics from diabetes to nanotechnology. The ILS’ first affiliate company Kuecept also spoke of its experience in doing business with the ILS and Cathy Thornton gave a précis on how and why research groups collaborate with external partners.

As well as the individual meetings, a number of ideas were sparked by the event. These included the introduction of monthly BioBreakfasts to help information and advice flow across the sector in an informal way.

With great thanks to the speakers, Professor Gareth Morgan, Gwyn Tudor (MediWales), Professor John White, Professor Steve Bain, Dr Steve Conlan, Dr Stefan Seibert, Dr Cathy Thornton, Bryn Williams (Kuecept), Mary Maher (Invacare Healthcare), Dr John Dingley, Mark Tudor (Frontier Medical) and Dr Paul Lewis; to the organising team, ably led by Emma Turner; to event partners MediWales and to the brokerage partners, Allancia.
