About the Course
Applications are now open for the course 8 January - 12 January 2018.
In this module, students will study knowledge management in health care environments. The themes covered will include: clinical decision-making; decision support systems; workflow management; web site design. Students will study experimental research designs.
The module covers the following topics:
- Decision Support Systems
- Creation of an intranet website
- Clinical decision making
- Workflow management
- Knowledge management systems
- Evaluating consumer health websites
- Web design and usability
- Experimental research designs
- Prioritising and rationing in health policy
- Critically appraise the use of decision support systems in health care.
- Critically evaluate the role of electronic learning in promoting staff and patient awareness.
- Create a sample Web site and critically discuss content management systems.
- Critically discuss the role of knowledge management in health care.
- Critically evaluate experimental research methods.

Associate Professor Tony Paget
Tony Paget’s background was in psychiatric nursing, but took an early interest in health informatics via participating, then organising the European Summer School of Nursing Informatics through the 1990s. He has been a qualified higher education teacher since 1998 and helped design Swansea University’s successful MSc in health informatics in 1999. He became the course director in 2011.
Judy Jenkins is an experienced and articulate educator. She has been working in academia since 1993, following 10 years in the NHS in a variety of managerial positions and is now a senior member of the health informatics group in the School of Medicine. Judy holds an MSc in Health Informatics, a PGCE in Higher Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her specialist subjects and areas of interest are clinical coding, secondary use of data, leadership and project management, and is module leader for several of the modules on the MSc in Health Informatics which relate to her areas of expertise.

The Knowledge Management Module (PMIM 501) carriers 20 Masters Level Credits and these are awarded on completion of a successful assignment.
However, students who wish to attend for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) purposes only will omit the assessment and be given a Certificate of Completion.
The course fees for EU/UK students for this module are £695.00.
