The Graduate Entry Medicine Programme (MB BCh) here in Swansea is unique in Wales, and one of a small group of fast-track programmes of medical study in the UK.

It is a fully independent four-year programme based entirely in Swansea and west Wales.  Supported by the Welsh Government, we hope that it will increase the number of doctors trained in Wales, address the acute shortage of doctors here and widen access to a profession of motivated and highly skilled individuals.

We have designed an integrated medical curriculum, where the basic biomedical sciences are learnt in the context of clinical medicine, public health, pathology, therapeutics, ethics and psycho-social issues in patient management. This, together with a high emphasis on clinical and communication skills will provide you with everything you'll need to practise medicine competently and confidently. 

The core curriculum is set in ‘learning weeks’, each starting with a clinical case presentation where a patient's medical and social history are discussed. You will then be led on a voyage of discovery until, at the end of the week, the case is concluded with clinical forum where you will hear the actual diagnosis of the case, and be able to question members of the multi-disciplinary team involved in the patient’s care. We believe that by learning the basic sciences in this context, it strongly emphasises their relevance to the clinical setting.

This programme of study has been specifically planned for graduates of any discipline, who will have acquired study skills and greater life experience than students coming through the more traditional route into medicine. Having studied at university before, graduates are more adaptable and better suited to an accelerated programme of intensive study, bringing a broad background and experience to their studies and, ultimately, professional practice.
