Ruslan Aiman Bin Abdul Rahman graduated from Swansea University in 2015 with an MEng in Materials Science Engineering.   He is now a Manager working for the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) in the field of construction materials.

The event took place on 18 March at The Towers Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.  Presenting the certificate on behalf of Professor Richard B. Davies, Vice-Chancellor of Swansea University, was Swansea University Honorary Fellow Dato Khairol Anuar and Ruth Bunting, Associate Head of the College of Engineering (Operations).

Commenting on his new Head of Chapter status, Ruslan said: “I am delighted to accept this position and look forward to continuing to work with Swansea University colleagues and friends and the wide network of fellow alumni here in Malaysia.

I had a fantastic time in Swansea with limitless opportunities to work with world-leading researchers and industry. During my time at the University, several international engineering companies came to give talks and lectures all touching on the field of Materials Engineering which was my chosen subject. The course was always up-to-date with the latest research and industry findings.

The lecturers were passionate and enthusiastic and a special mention goes to Professor George Fourlaris, Dr Andrew Rees, Dr Cameron Pleydell-Pearce and Professor Steve Brown who were particularly inspiring in their teaching methods and supervision of my final year research project.

In 2012 I was lucky enough to see snow in the UK – an exciting moment and a great memory for an international student! I now have a network of friends all over the globe and also made firm friends with those from the student intra mural football team.  All in all, Swansea University is definitely one of the best places in the world to study.”

Swansea University has a long and successful history with Malaysia and a few thousand graduates dating back to the 1950s.  Several alumni attended the evening to be part of this important event for the University.

Professor Richard B. Davies, Vice-Chancellor of Swansea University, said: “The University is incredibly proud of the success of its alumni, many of whom hold very senior positions across Malaysia. I am delighted that Ruslan Aiman Bin Abdul Rahman is now our new Head of the Malaysian Alumni Chapter.  I am sure he will be an excellent ambassador for the University and will help to grow further the special relationship we have with Malaysia.”
