Times University Rankings 2018 Arts and Humanities

Published today (13 September), the subject-specific tables follow the publication of the overall THE World University Rankings 2018, which was revealed on 5 September and saw Swansea University claim its highest ever position in the World University Rankings, achieving a ranking of 251 - 300.

The subject rankings are also based on the same range of 13 performance indicators used in the overall World University Rankings 2018, but the methodology is recalibrated for each subject to suit the individual fields. Subjects are assessed against key areas of higher education excellence spanning teaching, research, citations, industry income, and International outlook.

Arts & Humanities best performing area was International Outlook ranked at 146th in the world relating to the international make-up of staff and students and the proportion of international research collaboration. In addition, the subject areas’ research impact as measured through citations is ranked within the top 300 in the world (294th). Industry Income was ranked 314th, Research at 351st and Teaching at 397th.

Earlier this year, Swansea University’s Arts and Humanities subject area was also recognised in the QS World University Rankings by Subject appearing in the global top 450 for the very first time.

Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott said: “We are delighted to see that Swansea is again in the company of the world’s elite institutions, with our Arts & Humanities disciplines ranked in the top global 400.

“This clearly sends the message that Swansea is an aspiring and ambitious university that provides its students with a world-class education. Our wave of recent successes in university league tables all confirm that Swansea University continues on its strong upward trajectory, fast gaining a reputation for international excellence.”

Professor John Spurr, Head of the College of Arts and Humanities, added: “Swansea’s Arts and Humanities marry research excellence and teaching strength – we are proud to see this commitment recognised by our place in the top 400 World University rankings”.
