School of Sport and Exercise Sciences welcome world-leading voice in anti-doping and sports integrity

David Howman, head of the International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) Integrity Unit and former Director General of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), delivered a seminar to Swansea University yesterday.

The seminar was ahead of his keynote speech at the IMPACT-Sport Ethics and Integrity Conference in Cardiff today; a one-day conference which brings together international experts in the field of sports ethics, integrity, anti-doping, gambling and governance.

In his seminar titled ‘WADA, Russia, and the Politics of Sport’ , Mr Howman spoke about his time within the WADA (2003-2016), and its role in the governance and monitoring of doping in global sport, such as the Russian institutionalised doping programme prior to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The seminar was attended by many, including those studying for the Erasmus Mundus Sports Ethics and Integrity MA at Swansea University, a programme which responds to the global crisis in sports integrity, a world-first innovation for sports administration and governance.
