Swansea University’s Directorate of Marketing, Recruitment, Internationalisation and Development has been awarded gold accreditation against the Investors in People Standard, on its first-time assessment.
The Directorate joins the top seven per cent of accredited organisations across the UK, demonstrating their commitment to high performance through good people management.
Marketing, Recruitment, Internationalisation and Development is located at the University’s Singleton Park Campus and employs some 100-plus professionally line managed staff, working in the key areas of Admissions, Alumni, Business Marketing, Front of House, Fundraising and Development, Internationalisation, Marketing, PR and Communications, Recruitment, Sport and Corporate Events.
The Directorate was established by Catherine Marks in 2002, who as Director has overseen its growth and development to create a vibrant marketing culture across the University working in global, regional, and local markets.

Paul Devoy, Head of Investors in People, said: “We’d like to congratulate Swansea University’s Directorate of Marketing, Recruitment, Internationalisation and Development. Investors in People accreditation is the sign of a great employer, an outperforming place to work and a clear commitment to success. Swansea University should be extremely proud of their achievement.”
Commenting on the award, Director Catherine Marks (pictured) said: “We are delighted to have achieved this gold standard Investors in People accreditation and to have this ringing endorsement from our staff – especially on our first-time assessment.
“Swansea University is continuing on a strong upward trajectory and the dedicated and professional marketing staff, both centrally and in the Colleges, are playing a key role in assisting the University to achieve its ambitions and objectives through their individual expertise, commitment, and high performance.
“I am particularly pleased that in the Investors in People report, we received ‘Advanced’ levels for indicators for demonstration of living our values and behaviours agreed across the professional services of Swansea University; for empowering and involving people; for managing performance; for structuring work to deliver organisational objectives; for ensuring people's capabilities are actively managed and developed; for a focus on continuous improvement; and were ‘High Performing’ in creating sustainable success.
“There is of course also the opportunity for reflection and review through the Investors in People Standard process, to achieve continuous improvement, and this is something we’ll be striving for going forward and in anticipation of our reassessment in three years’ time.”
Adding his congratulations, Swansea University’s Registrar and Chief Operating Officer Raymond Ciborowski said: “We are indeed proud that our Directorate of Marketing, Recruitment, Internationalisation and Development has achieved the gold standard accreditation, demonstrating the University and the Directorate’s commitment to high performance through excellent people management.
“This achievement builds on the Directorate’s recent second successful term with the award of the Cabinet Office’s Customer Service Excellence Standard, as part of their rolling programmes with the Standard, to deliver enhanced services to our students, staff, and partners.”
