Experts from the Egypt Centre at Swansea University have written a chapter for a new handbook to help university museums engage with the hard to reach. Throughout Britain engagement is essential to university policies

Together, Assistant Curator, Wendy Goodridge and Volunteer Manager, Syd Howells from the Egypt Centre have successfully had their paper ‘Engaging with the Hard to Reach: From Town to Gown’ included as a chapter in the new book, Advancing Engagement: A Handbook for Academic Museums (Volume Three), which includes case studies of the challenges and opportunities faced by University museums.

Two of the key aims of the Egypt Centre, Museum of Egyptian Antiquities at Swansea University are inclusion and inspiration. Wendy and Syd said

“Our chapter details the museums work with young people, not only as visitors but also volunteers too and focuses on the challenges and how we have overcome them”.

Advancing Engagement provides examples of best practice, innovation, and good thinking which offer guidance and inspiration for museums of all sizes and resources.

This insightful read was published earlier this month (January 2015) by the publishers MuseumsEtc. For more information go to http://museumsetc.com/products/advancing-engagement
