The Complete University Guide 2015, published today, shows that Swansea University is in the top 20 places in the UK for a wide range of subjects, from engineering and medical technology to social work, putting it among the UK’s leading universities.

StudentsThe Complete University Guide (CUG) is an independent guide, which analyses universities across the UK.

It looks at areas such as graduate prospects, student satisfaction and spend per student.

In the 2015 Guide, Swansea moved up the overall rankings from 48th  to 42nd in the table, out of the 127 UK universities who were asked for data by the CUG team.

Subjects where Swansea is in the top 20 in the UK include

  • Medical technology
  • Engineering
  • Social work
  • American Studies

The result comes after The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2014 showed that Swansea moved into the top 50 in the UK.

An international survey showed that Swansea had also moved up amongst the top 500 universities in the world - which puts it in the top 5% of all universities globally.

Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, Swansea University Pro-Vice-Chancellor, said:

“I’m really encouraged to see these fantastic results, which show that we are continuing our upward trajectory.

This excellent result follows the news that we have moved up amongst the top 500 universities in the world, putting us in the top 5% globally.

It shows that our hard work is paying off in areas including improving the student experience.  We are delighted that our big increase in spending per student is also reflected in the results.

We’ve also recently achieved a top five-star rating for our teaching in the QS Awards, and won the Times Higher Education award for Outstanding Student Services team in the UK.

The survey therefore provides further evidence that Swansea University is on the way up”.

Nova Jayne Robinson, Director of TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk said:

“Once again, the Guide is first to give university applicants reliable and comprehensive information on which to base one of the most important choices of their lives.”

The league table, full methodology and other information are available at www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk.

Complete University Guide (main table) is based on nine measures: Student Satisfaction, Research Assessment, Entry Standards, Student: Staff Ratio; Spending on Academic Services; Spending on Student Facilities; Good Honours degrees achieved; Graduate Prospects and Completion.
