Professor Javier Bonet, head of Swansea University’s College of Engineering has been presented with a prestigious award in recognition of his work in the field of numerical methods and its applications.
Professor Bonet has been awarded the Spanish Society for Numerical Methods in Engineering (SEMNI) award, which is awarded biennually and is the highest possible prize given by the organisation.
Professor Perumal Nithiarasu, head of the Zienkiewicz Centre for Computational Engineering ZCCE at the University said: “On behalf of everyone at the ZCCE, I warmly congratulate Professor Bonet on this honour from the SEMNI prize committee. This award has been given to him in recognition of his tremendous contribution in the field in a wide variety of research topics, including finite element technology, superplastic forming, error estimation, limit theory and meshless methods, to name but a few.”
The Vice Chancellor of Swansea University Professor Richard B. Davies said: “Professor Bonet is an outstanding researcher who has helped Swansea maintain its global lead in numerical methods for engineering design. He is also an enthusiastic and tireless academic leader who, as the Head of our College of Engineering, has steered engineering through an exciting period of growth and is masterminding the move to modern, purpose-built, facilities on the new Science and Innovation Campus. We congratulate him on this well-deserved award.”
