This free-to-attend public lecture forms part of Swansea University’s third annual Festival of Research, which takes place from Wednesday, February 19 until Saturday, February 22.

Title: A Mathematical Meditation on the Circle

Speaker: Dr Jeff Giansiracusa

Date: Saturday 22 February

Time: 10.15 - 11.30am

Venue: Taliesin Arts Centre

Admission: Free of charge, all welcome and no booking necessary.

The circle is the simplest and purest geometric figure. In this lecture we will follow the circle through art, science, and mathematics on a surprising journey that will take us from antiquity to modern medicine and engineering and eventually to the abstract world of topology and extra dimensions. The simplicity of the circle conceals a devastating wealth of powerful ideas.

Dr Jeff Giansiracusa is an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded research fellow at Swansea University in the Department of Mathematics.
