Following a call for abstracts earlier this year, organisers have now published the finalised programme for the Algae Event 2014, which is due to take place on Wednesday 25th June during the 22nd European Biomass Conference and Exhibition at the Congress Centre in Hamburg, Germany.

The Algae Event is a parallel event jointly organised by EU BC&E, RECORD and EnAlgae, a European Union funded project being led by Swansea University.

The event will be split into four sessions covering cultivation, conversion methods, products and sustainability with a total of 21 speakers taking part. A poster session will also take place at the end of the oral presentations.

“This event will allow an extremely varied and wide-ranging series of debates to take place, covering all aspects of using biomass as a source of energy,” said Dr Shaun Richardson, coordinator of the EnAlgae project.

“Cultivation topics for discussion range from offshore production of kelps to the optimising of microalgae productivity, with presentations from projects around the globe.  Multiple applications will be addressed focussing on energy and using algae-based solutions for capturing CO2 and utilising liquid waste streams.  In economics and sustainability we’ll be looking at the viability of upscaled production in an algae bio-refinery context for multiple end uses and products.

“We are addressing themes that are key to viable upscaled production, and hope that the Algae Event 2014 will make a valuable contribution towards the future of the expanding algal biotechnology industry.“

The Algae Event 2014 is an official fringe event of the 22nd European Biomass Conference and Exhibition.  Registration for the event is now open and anyone wishing to attend the Algae Event can do so by visiting http://www.eubce.com/Registration.2111.0.html#.U2j1yVVdWmE.
