Title: Designing IT to make Healthcare Safer

Speaker: Harold Thimbleby Hon FRCP, Emeritus Gresham Professor of Geometry

If preventable error in hospitals was a disease, it would be our sixth biggest killer, ahead of diabetes and ahead of road accidents.  We have had so many problems with IT systems in hospitals that some have argued that healthcare has become an IT problem, and certainly it is one of the key barriers to improving healthcare. This lecture focuses on computer and IT systems in hospitals, including mobile devices, what's wrong with them and how they can be improved.  Such problems are ubiquitous, and by no means limited to healthcare.
