The next in the series of free community lectures organised by Swansea University’s Department of Adult Continuing Education (DACE) takes place on Tuesday, 15th May, 2012.

Speaker information: Dr Alexia L Bowler is an Honorary Research Associate in the Research Institute for Arts and Humanities (RIAH) at Swansea University. Her research interests are Hollywood film, representations of technology in literature and film, gender/feminism in film, adaptations of nineteenth century literature in television, film and literature, contemporary literature, genre, adaptation and critical theory.

Lecture summary: This talk will explore the ways in which particular cinematic narratives deal with an increasingly mediated or technologised society and whether, as a spectacle in itself, cinema is an adequate medium through which to ask questions about the nature of technology.
