Learner Award success for Roberta
The Carmarthenshire Learning Festival Group held their annual Learner and Tutor Awards Event earlier this month in Coleg Sir Gar. The event was an opportunity for learners and tutors to gain recognition for their efforts and demonstrate their commitment to learning.

Roberta Perry who is studying on Swansea University’s part-time humanities degree delivered by the Department of Adult Continuing Education (DACE) was the recipient of a Learner Award.
Roberta (pictured above with Vanessa Thomas, Part-time Degree Development Officer, DACE) has been studying Sociology and Psychology at community venues in Carmarthenshire and Swansea for five years and will be beginning her final year this September.
Roberta, from Ammanford, was nominated for the award by her Psychology tutor Eira Thomas.
Eira first taught Roberta on a 10-week Psychology course and during this time she recognised Roberta’s natural talent for the subject.
“She clearly enjoyed class discussions and worked hard on her assignments,” said Eira.
After completing this short course, Roberta’s confidence and ability grew and with encouragement from Eira, Roberta started the part-time degree.
“Roberta remains a hard working and committed student and is an inspiration to those returning to learn,” added Eira.
Roberta said: “The last five years have been a memorable and wonderful time, I have enjoyed every minute of it. I am delighted to have won this award!”
Professor Colin Trotman, Director of DACE said: “Roberta is an inspirational student and thoroughly deserves to win this award. It recognises her commitment to being a part-time degree student.
“She has effectively balanced her personal commitments whilst studying on the unique part-time humanities degree which has been established in the community for over 20 years. We are very proud of her achievements and wish her every success with her final year of study.”
