ESRC Research Seminar Series Understanding the Migrant Experience
Researchers at Swansea University's Centre for Migration Policy Research (CMPR) are hosting the last in their series of one-day ESRC-funded seminars, which aim to increase understanding of the migrant experience.
The final seminar, organised in partnership with the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), is entitled 'Who hears the story? Translating the migrant experience into policy and practice'.
Date: Thursday 25th November 2010
Time: 9.30am – 5pm
Venue: Singleton Abbey, Swansea University, Singleton Park, Swansea, SA2 8PP
Speakers:
Chris Attwood (UKBA, Home Office)
Dr Ann Singleton (University of Bristol)
Dr Bridget Anderson (COMPAS, University of Oxford)
Professor Julia O'Connell-Davidson (University of Nottingham)
Tim Finch (IPPR)
Eve Geddie (PICUM).
This seminar will explore the extent to which different narratives and representations of 'the migrant experience' are heard by those tasked with the design and delivery of policies and processes relating to immigration, including immigration controls, the delivery of services and the process of social integration.
It will also explore whether the ‘partnership model’ between migrant community organisations and local and national government departments with responsibility for immigration policy and practice help or hinder ‘the migrant story’ from being heard.
Lunch will be provided and there will be plenty of time for reflection and discussion.
There are a few places remaining. If you would like to attend please email migration@swansea.ac.uk by Friday 12th November. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
