The award was presented by Swansea University Vice Chancellor, Professor Richard B Davies during the summer Degree and Award Congregation for the School of Human and Health Sciences on Wednesday 20 July.

Professor Davies said “It is an important feature of Swansea University degree ceremonies that, while celebrating the success of our students, we find time to acknowledge some of the outstanding staff who have contributed to this success. For a few minutes we turn the spotlight on a Distinguished Teaching Award winner. We are justifiably proud of the high quality of student experience provided at Swansea and we find that staff, graduates and parents enjoy the opportunity to express their appreciation of the very best teaching”.

Jane Thomas, Deputy Head of the College of Human and Health Sciences who supported the nomination for Emma Rees added “Emma Rees is a versatile and engaging teacher, thoroughly professional and with a strong curriculum interest. Although her specialism is comparatively small within the College her impact is widely felt. I cannot recommend her strongly enough as an excellent teacher and an example to others.”

Emma Rees commented on her delight at receiving the award: “Surprised and honoured! I’m just one part of the team that contributes to the student experience. The student enthusiasm for cardiology never fails to inspire me. Seeing them become excellent Cardiac Physiologists, gain employment and succeed in their career is the best accolade for the programme but it is great that our approach to teaching and assessing has been recognised by the university.”
