Decluttering or in the market for a bargain?
With the transition from long summer nights to crisp autumn days marking the start of the University term, Discovery Student Volunteering Swansea is urging local people to donate their unwanted items to the new Discovery Charity Shop in Brynmill.
"The success of the Discovery Charity Shop will allow these volunteers to continue this work by, for example, taking vulnerable adults out with our Active 18 project to enjoy some independent time while their carers benefit from a much deserved rest.
"The funds raised will also enable disadvantaged people to access local gardening and decorating services and, in parallel, ensure that our beautiful beaches are kept clean and healthy for all to use.
"As importantly, each Swansea University volunteer gains from the non-academic experience that is so important in an increasingly competitive employment market."
The student volunteers, who are looking for all unwanted items to be donated, are particularly interested in homewares, books (fiction and non fiction), toys and clothing for men, women and children of all ages. All goods handed-over will be sold on at competitive prices.
Natalie Mills, Discovery’s Student President and a psychology student at Swansea University’s School of Health and Human Sciences, added: "Many people have clothes that they no longer wear lurking in the back of their wardrobes; unwanted gifts hidden in their cupboards; and unused kitchen items taking up valuable space under the sink.
"By donating any unwanted items to the Discovery Charity Shop, you’ll not only be creating space in your life but you’ll also be recycling in the best possible way."
If you wish to donate any unwanted items - or bag a bargain – visit the Discovery Charity Shop, 112 Marlborough Road (opposite the Rhyddings Pub) in Brynmill, Swansea, between 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am - 2pm on Saturday.
Natalie concluded: "We already have some fantastic stock for sale - including the weird and wonderful, the functional and the frivolous. Whether buying or donating you’ll be supporting a really vital local cause."
