Summer University reaches wider
Year 12 pupils in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot still have time to get their applications in for this year's Reaching Wider Summer University from July 14 - August 8.

The Summer University, which is run by Swansea University’s Department of Adult and Continuing Education (DACE) and Swansea Metropolitan University, is now in its fifth year.
It offers pupils a free four-week residential programme of intensive learning and social activities, and pupils are also provided with a weekly living allowance of £25.
Pupils who successfully complete the Summer University and then successfully complete their school or college studies will be offered the equivalent of 60 UCAS points when applying for courses at Swansea University and Swansea Metropolitan University.

Over the last four years, 189 pupils have taken part in the Summer University, and many of them are now studying at one of the institutions involved in the initiative.
Jay Smith, from Neath Port Talbot College, who attended the Summer University in 2007 said: "It really helped me to decide that university was the best choice for me. After the four weeks I came out of it with new friends, new skills, and fantastic memories."
Project Officer Alice Davies said: "The success of the Summer University is built on the firm support we have received from both Swansea’s higher education and further education providers, and of course the enthusiasm and commitment of the students from Swansea and Neath Port Talbot who have taken part. The initiative has gone from strength to strength, with pupil numbers increasing every year."
"We are preparing an exciting programme of learning and events for our fifth year. Subjects on offer this year include: Art and Design; Biological Sciences; Business Studies; Engineering; Media and Performing Arts; Psychology and Health Studies; and Criminology."
"The Summer University not only helps pupils with their current studies, but it also gives them a real taste of what studying at a university is like."
"And it’s certainly not all hard work – in the evenings we’ll be having lots of fun including karaoke, fancy dress parties, cycle rides, bowling, and much more."
The closing date for applications for this year's Summer School is April 25.
