Trinidad 2008: It's carnival night and with the fall of the Yankee dollar, a group of prostitutes are trying to make a little extra by selling their paintings in a downtown bar.
So who's the nun with an eye on their canvases?
Hong Kong 1942: A British banker and his wife are trying hard to keep stiff upper lips while their marriage collapses as they wait for the inevitable Japanese invasion.
Downtown USA now: A group of house-sharing twenty-somethings are lurching their way through their amusingly aimless lives…until a hidden door opens the way to frightening and funny possibilities.
These are among the many exciting scenarios in Rough Diamonds 08, two evenings of rehearsed readings of drama extracts by the students of Swansea University's MA Creative Writing Course.
Moving, funny and thoughtful, Rough Diamonds presents the works of a new generation of dramatists. Come along and say you saw them first!
Presented in conjunction with the Dylan Thomas centre and performed by members of Swansea's acclaimed Fluellen Theatre Company, these exciting works-in-progress are directed by playwright D J Britton, lecturer in dramatic writing at Swansea University.
The writers include: Shurla Blades, Courtney Butler, Rebecca Carrington, Sarah Elliot, Louise Hinchen, Graham Isaac, Jennifer Johnson, Al Kellerman, Chris Marshall, Louise McLeod, Dave Oprava, Alison Plant, Nia Probert, and Jessica Ramthun, plus some surprise guests.
