IAT joins Mobile Virtual Centre of Excellence
Swansea University's Institute of Advanced Telecommunications (IAT) has joined the prestigious Mobile Virtual Centre of Excellence in Mobile and Personal Communications (Mobile VCE).
Mobile VCE is a partnership of around 20 of the world's most prominent mobile communications companies and seven UK universities who all have long-standing specialist expertise in the area, and competition to join the partnership is stiff.
Members currently include Edinburgh University, Bristol University, King's College London and industry partners including Vodafone, Orange, BT, Nokia, Ericsson, and Alcatel-Lucent.
Mobile VCE engages in industrially-led long-term projects, whose scope and reach have a global dimension and whose activities demand a high financial R&D leverage.
IAT will be specifically involved in the Core 5 Research programme (2008-2011), working alongside Edinburgh, Bristol and King's College London in the development of green radio technology.
The IAT team involved in this innovative collaboration is led by Professor Tim O'Farrell. Other members of the academic team include Dr Pavel Loskot and Dr Jianhua He.
Professor O'Farrell said: "This success is very important and significant for IAT, as a relatively new institute. This opportunity to work with these highly reputable, well established partners is what we have worked to achieve."
