    French Embassy’s Deputy Scientific Counsellor visits

    Dr Jacques Chevalier, Deputy Scientific Counsellor, Representative of Inserm in the UK, at the French Embassy in London, has visited Swansea University.

    Dr Chevalier met with the University’s Academic Registrar, Huw Morris, Dr John Mason, of Swansea’s School of Engineering, and Professor Jean Francois Bonastre, of the University of Avignon, to discuss the arrangements for the new PhD/Doctoral degree, which will be offered jointly by Swansea and Avignon.

    Dr Chevalier, who has a particular interest in Biomedicine, visited the Institute of Life Science to meet with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Richard B Davies, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rhys Williams, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Internationalisation and External Affairs), Professor Iwan Davies, and senior members of the School of Medicine, to discuss the potential of developing collaborative research initiatives between Swansea and universities in France.  

    Members of the University’s management team also discussed the possibility of extending the joint PhD programmes to other universities throughout France.  The aim of such joint degrees is to enhance the employability of the university’s students in a global environment.
