Course offers adult nurses the chance to be a midwife in 18 months

School of Health Science Nursing Open Day

A course at Swansea University is offering qualified adult nurses the chance to convert their skills – and become midwives in 18 months.

The comprehensive course draws on the nurses’ skills; teaching them everything they need to know about midwifery.

Funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, students don’t have any fees to pay and have a great chance of securing a position on completing their qualification – as the School of Health Science takes on the same amount of pupils as there are midwifery positions vacant in Wales.

Experienced midwife and lecturer Marian McIvor said: “This course is essential to the healthcare system in Wales, allowing adult nurses to achieve their career dreams.

"Their previous nursing experience, knowledge and skills will benefit mothers and babies throughout the country, whilst the intensive course teaches them all they need to know about midwifery."

An open day on January 15, in the School of Health Science, will see Mrs McIvor holding presentations and answering questions from Adult Nurses who want to make the move from Nursing to Midwifery.

Talks will be held at 10am and 2pm in the University’s Glyndwr Building, room 223.
