Athletic Union Sports Awards 2008
Swansea University's Athletic Union (AU) will hold its annual Sports Awards evening on Monday, March 3, in the city's Brangwyn Hall.
The event, which begins at 7pm, will celebrate the achievements of the University's student sports teams and look back on the successes of the last year.
Eight awards will be presented on the night in the categories of Club of the Year; Team of the Year; Sportsman of the Year; Sportswoman of the Year; Most Improved Club of the Year; Fresher of the Year Award; Sports Personality of the Year Award, and the President’s Cup.

Richard Lancaster (pictured), General Manager of Swansea University Athletic Union, said: “The annual AU Sports Awards is an excellent opportunity to reflect on what has been another very successful year for Swansea’s sports teams and individuals.
“Some of the many successes we’ve celebrated this year include hosting both the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) Cross Country and Cyclo Cross Championships, having more than 20 students selected to play for Welsh University teams in the upcoming British University Games tournaments, and a number of our Sports Scholars going on to be selected for international honours.”
The AU is responsible for many of the sporting activities at the University. It works to develop both competitive and non-competitive sport and to facilitate the development and achievement of its sports clubs.
It caters for the wide range of sports clubs, which vary from rugby, football, and netball, to water sports like sailing and sub-aqua, and martial arts including judo and tae kwon do.
“We look forward to recognising the achievements of all our sportsmen and sportswomen on the night, and particularly those teams and individuals who have excelled and have been nominated for the eight awards,” added Richard, who was himself honoured with a Contribution to Sport award for his work in Rugby and Sports Development in last year’s City and County of Swansea Sports Awards.
Swansea University offers Sports Scholarships, worth £3,000 over the duration of a degree, which are awarded to talented young men and women who have the potential to become world-class.
