Swansea University LGBT+ Staff Network wins Network of the year at Stonewall Cymru Awards

The Swansea University LGBT+ Staff Network has won Network of the year at the Annual Stonewall Cymru Workplace Equality Index Awards. Network co-chairs Alys Einion and Cath Elms received the award at the Stonewall Cymru Workplace Equality Index Awards in Cardiff on Friday 3 February.

Stonewall awardThe award follows the news last month that Swansea University has been ranked the second-highest scoring university in the whole of the UK in Stonewall’s annual list of the 100 most inclusive places to work, and is one of only 10 organisations in Wales to be in the top 100 employers.

Cath Elms and Alys Einion said: “We are delighted to have won the Stonewall Cymru Staff Network of the Year award, which is a testament to our hard work in progressing LGBT+ equality at Swansea University.

“We have put a lot of our own time and energy into running the LGBT+ Staff Network, and we ask for nothing more than the feeling that we are making the world a better place. We don’t do this for the glory, we do it because it matters, but it is very nice indeed to win an award and once again put Swansea University firmly on the map as an inclusive employer and a great place to work and study.  It is something that will help us to share our message, involve more network members and allies, and to do more to push forward equality for all.”

The Swansea University LGBT+ Staff Network is holding a free Symposium for LGBT History month, a film screening of ‘The British Guide to Showing Off’ in Taliesin, and a blog series. The blog series can be accessed here.  To register for the Symposium, click here.
