Further Maths Support Programme Wales

In conjunction with the Royal Institution of Great Britain, the Wales Institute of Mathematical Sciences (WIMCS), the Further Maths Support Programme Wales, the Department of Mathematics, Swansea University, and the School of Education, Swansea Metropolitan University, jointly support 6 maths masterclasses for more able and talented year 9 pupils from schools in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Carmarthenshire.  The classes run on Saturday mornings in the spring term each year and are attended by 60 – 70 pupils who are nominated by their school.  The aim of the masterclasses is to stimulate and encourage young people in the art and practice of mathematics and to develop a sense of enjoyment in the subject.  PGCE Secondary maths students act as helpers at the three classes run at the School of Education, SMU, and postgraduate maths students from the Department of Mathematics, help at the three classes run at Swansea University.
