Welcome to Swansea University - Library and Information Services

Study Areas and PC Areas in the LIC

Are you looking for somewhere quiet to study? Do you need to find a space to work together in a group? Do you need to use a PC?

In order to cater for differing learning styles, the Library and Information Centre (LIC) is divided into different study zones. Our floor plans pages will tell you where each study area is.

A group study area can be found on the right hand side of the Study Hall on Level 3 West

There are also individual study desks among the book stacks in all areas of the Library and Information Centre.
  • Please maintain a quiet study atmosphere throughout the LIC and respect the needs of other library users.

  • No hot food or alcohol is allowed in the LIC.  Cold snacks may be consumed in the Study Hall (but not in the Silent Study Areas, PC Rooms or anywhere else in the building).
  •  Mobile phones may only be used in silent mode; considerate conversations are allowed on Levels 3 & 4 of the West Wing.

If you have any problems finding somewhere quiet to study you can ask at the Information Desk to be directed to a silent study area.  If you find that other users are making unreasonable levels of noise, report the problem at the Information Desk and a member of staff can ask them to be quiet or to move to the group study area.

Computing Facilities in the LIC

Over 400 Open Access PCs (PCs which can be used by any student) are situated within the LIC.  These PCs can be found in the Study Hall on West Levels 3 and 4.  Check out our Student Computing page for more information about computing facilities.

Laptop Loan and Open Access Computing Facilities across campus

If you find that the PC area is too busy and you are unable to find a PC to use you can borrow a laptop for use at home or in the library.  Ask at the Issue Desk for details about this.  There are power sockets to plug in laptops in most study areas.  There are also other PC areas on campus where you can use an open access PC:
