As well as housing part of the South Wales Coalfield Collection, the South Wales Miners' Library is also the main library service for staff and students of the Department of Adult Continuing Education (DACE). The collection contains materials to support most subjects taught by DACE. In addition the library houses a growing collection on the history, theory and practice of adult education.
The South Wales Coalfield Collection (SWCC) succeeds through its variety of archival media in giving an insight into the experience of the South Wales Valleys during a period of industrial turmoil both from an institutional and personal perspective. It contains records of trade unions (notably the South Wales Miners' Federation, later the National Union of Mineworkers (South Wales Area) and the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation, South Wales Division), miners' institutes, co-operative societies, and individuals connected with the mining community.
Coalfield Web Materials provides a unique insight into the social, political and cultural life of the South Wales Coalfield during the 19th and 20th centuries. The site includes clips from audio and video interviews, ranging from significant political and trade union leaders to men who worked in the coal mines and their families and photographs which illustrate all aspects of life in the coalfield. The site is based on the holdings of the South Wales Coalfield Collection at Swansea University (See above).
