Who we are
The Life Science Exchange is an organisation which is responsible for managing the Welsh Government funded Life Science Wales project.
The project is led by Swansea University in partnership with Cardiff University, MediWales and NISCHR AHSC.
What we are all about
The Welsh Life Science sector possesses a number of significant assets. There are several Life Sciences centres of academic excellence and a centrally managed NHS IT infrastructure which enables national level research. Furthermore, Wales boasts a thriving Life Science industry, along with many well established business development organisations and extensive input from Welsh Government support mechanisms.
The role of the Life Science Wales project is to forge stronger bonds between these elements to create a world leading Life Science research environment. By linking together the strengths and assets which Wales already possesses, there is an excellent opportunity to create a collaborative Life Science ecosystem which facilitates research and development activity across the sector.
How we will do it
The project will enlist a network of highly specialised groups comprising academia, representatives from industry, the Welsh Government and NHS Wales. There will be seven groups in total which focus on the following aspects of the Life Science sector:
- Medical Devices
- Regenerative Medicine
- Industrial Biotechnology
Each group will meet separately to identify the key strengths and the barriers to wider collaboration within their specialty area. As the project progresses, discussions will be focussed around how to maximise existing opportunities and ways in which greater collaboration can be achieved.
