All modules are examined principally by unseen examination. These examinations take two forms being the traditional, closed-book, written examination and the one day take-home examination. Most examinations are held during May and June while some are held in January. In many modules, the examinations are complemented by an essay which can be prepared over a number of months. Some modules also incorporate some form of continuous assessment which can provide for up to 30% of the final mark.
The one exception to these forms of assessment is the project which can be undertaken in the final year. This is an extended essay on a subject chosen by the student and approved by a member of staff.
The final degree classification is based upon performance in Levels 2 and 3, although performance in Level 1 is important in the respect that the foundational knowledge and skills gained here are crucial to success in the Level 2 and 3 modules.
