Profile
Laura has wide ranging experience of civil litigation having trained and practised with Hugh James solicitors at their Cardiff office.  She has a passion for advocacy and became an in-house advocate for the firm, contesting difficult applications and occasionally conducting the advocacy in fast track type trials.  As a commercial litigator, her caseload included commercial disputes, partner / director disputes, banking litigation, corporate and personal insolvency, agricultural disputes, professional negligence claims against solicitors, accountants and surveyors, building litigation and contested probate.  She also has experience of claimant and defendant personal injury and has worked in the firm’s specialist head injury department.  She advised a variety of clients ranging from individuals and sole traders to insurance companies, a broadcasting company and a national sporting authority.
Laura currently leads the Solicitors’ Accounts module and the Employment Law & Practice module on the Legal Practice Course at Swansea.  She is responsible for Business Accounts (which forms part of the Business Law & Practice module) and currently assists on the Wills & Administration and Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence courses.  She has previously assisted on the Civil Litigation and Advocacy modules.
Prior to joining Swansea Law School, Laura taught at Cardiff University.  On their LPC programme she taught Civil and Criminal Litigation, Advocacy, Commercial Litigation and Accounts and assisted in writing a comprehensive guide to civil litigation.

In 2009, Laura was selected by the Solicitors Regulation Authority to be an LPC external examiner.  She is currently the external examiner for BPP Law Schools (in criminal litigation) and for Oxford Institute of Legal Practice (in tax, wills & administration, employment law, writing and drafting)

In 2010, Laura was selected by the SRA to be Panel Member on their Higher Rights of Audience validation panels.  She has subsequently determined applications made by institutions wishing to offer HRA assessments.
