On 4 March 2015, the Department of Postgraduate Legal Studies hosted its sixth annual LLM Career Fair.
The event enabled Swansea LLM students to meet representatives from a number of organisations to discuss recruitment opportunities and also establish useful contacts which will undoubtedly prove to be invaluable for them in near future. This year’s event attracted a number of International law firms and P&I Clubs, including Holman Fenwick LLP, Ince and Co, The Britannia Steam Ship Insurance and Skuld P & I Club, just to name a few who gave valuable advice to our students on the recruitment process. Once again, a number of the organisations attending the Fair were represented by Swansea alumni such as Mr Florian Schaker (trainee-Ince &Co), Mr Kristoffer Snaprud Johannessen (Claims Executive, Skuld P & I Club) Miss Jessica Wearing-Evans (M. Taher & Co, Solicitor).
Representatives from the firms commented that they found our LLM students to be very well prepared and informed of the job opportunities available in the market. This is attributed to the bespoke guidance and support provided by the Postgraduate Legal Studies Department to our LLM students.

Following the event, Dale Hammond from Britannia Steam Ship Insurance Association Ltd commented that “As usual, the Career Fair was very well organised and we were able to meet many good quality LLM students. We find the Fair to be an excellent and convenient way of getting to know a large number of people who will be entering the shipping job market in the near future and assessing which of them could be cut out for a career in the P&I sector.”
Commenting on the event, Dr Theodora Nikaki, the Deputy Head of the Department of Postgraduate Legal Studies said:
“At Swansea we are committed to producing first class graduates who are equipped with the necessary skills to find a job in the commercial and shipping sector. To this end, we run a series of employability seminars to our students alongside their studies. It is gratifying that our students are regarded in high esteem by international companies, insurers and law firms”
