Youth Substance Use Symposium
This symposium was organised by the Centre for Criminal Justice and Criminology in partnership with the Swansea Youth Offending Service and the Swansea Substance Misuse Action Team, and held at the University on 29th June 2011. Chaired by University Pro Chancellor, Mrs. Vivienne Sugar, the symposium created an opportunity for key decision makers, practitioners, and academics to explore current policy, strategy and research relating to youth substance use.
Keynote speakers at the symposium were: Karen Eveleigh (Head of Quality Improvement for Substance Misuse at the Welsh Government); Eddie Isles (Manager, Swansea Youth Offending Service); young people peer educators from Pentrehafod School, Swansea; and Prof Kevin Haines from the Centre for Criminal Justice and Criminology. Attendees at the symposium included: local Elected Members; Local Authority Officers from across South Wales; substance use treatment commissioners and providers; education professionals; health professionals; youth justice managers and practitioners; and representatives from voluntary and community groups.
