UR Community Youth Conference

This conference took place on 19th July 2011 at Pentrehafod School, Swansea. The youth conference focused on using research findings (Charles, 2011) to better understand young people's participation in decision making. In addition to disseminating research findings, the conference, which was grounded in a youth-led methodology addressed the following themes: safer neighbourhoods; out of school activities; and healthy images of youth.

In addition to young people from across Swansea, the conference was attended by the High Sheriff of West Glamorgan, Chief Superintendent of Police and senior Police Officers in Swansea, Cabinet and other Members of the City and County of Swansea, Local Authority Officers, Officers from the Swansea Youth Offending Service, School teachers, and representatives of voluntary groups. The conference afforded young people an opportunity to offer their views concerning participation in their communities, and to formulate recommendations to local agencies and service providers.
