Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Continuing Professional Development
The College of Law and Criminology delievers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for Solicitors and Barristers, building upon our strengths as an accredited Law Society training provider.
We also deliver mediation training in conjunction with Iscoed Chambers, Swansea. A team of barrister mediators from Iscoed train and assess delegates in this skill which is designed to meet a growing need for civil disputes to be resolved outside the formal court system. This intensive course is delivered over five days.
Shipping law training
Our Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law offers training on behalf of BIMCO, the world’s largest organisation representing ship owners. We provide tailored masterclasses focusing mainly on bills of lading, time charterparties and laytime and demurrage. Courses have been held in Athens, Instanbul, New Orleans, Nice, Rotterdam, Singapore and Genova. Two summer schools are held each year, usually near Copenhagen where BIMCO is based.
We also provide in-house training to BP on charterparties and related documents for employees. In addition we provide Foundation Courses in Marine Insurance, Bills of Lading and Charterparties for young solicitor trainees employed by a consortium of City Law firms.
