Duty Solicitor and Police Station Representatives accreditation schemes

Assessment in both the Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme (CLAS) and the Police Station Representatives Accreditation Scheme (PSRAS).

CLAS is designed for qualified solicitors who wish to join both the Police Station and Magistrates’ Court duty solicitor rotas in order to provide advice and assistance to suspects or defendants. The scheme involves completion of various portfolios and live tests. We will provide training and assessment in both the Police Station Qualification and the Magistrates’ Court Qualification. Membership of the Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme (CLAS) enables solicitors to apply to the Criminal Defence Service for inclusion in duty solicitor schemes.

PSRAS is a scheme designed for non-solicitor employees who attend police stations to advise and assist detainees. This scheme involves completion of various portfolios by candidates, a written examination and a live test. Membership of the scheme allows non-solicitors to advise and assist suspects being held at a police station and to claim payment for providing such advice and assistance.
