During their regular visit to partner institutions in the Far East, Professors Soyer and Tettenborn, together with Dr Caddell and Kurtz-Shefford, attended a dinner on 7 December 2013 for Swansea LLM alumni at Shanghai.
The event presented an opportunity for alumni to meet, to catch up with developments and to keep up contact with faculty members. Prof Soyer, Head of the Postgraduate Legal Studies Department, delivered a short speech outlining recent exciting developments in the College of Law and the University. Participants were delighted to hear of impressive new appointments to strengthen the teaching team, recognition of the LLM in the form of new prizes awarded by leading international law firms to Swansea LLM students. He added that he was proud to see Swansea graduates holding key positions in shipping, insurance and financial sectors so soon after their graduation.

Professor Soyer concluded by saying: “It is reassuring to see that Swansea LLM graduates have no difficulty in getting excellent jobs even in times when shipping sector is not firing in all cylinders. We are confident that the education they receive at Swansea and the reputation of our degrees play a key role in securing these jobs.”
The dinner, which followed a similar event in London in October, ended with a drinks reception. It provided a clear demonstration, if any was needed, of the spread of Swansea alumni to every corner of the globe and their steady rise to positions of importance in the financial and legal sectors in their respective jurisdictions.
