The Department of Shipping and Trade Law (College of Law, Swansea), is one of the largest providers of LLM programmes in the realm of shipping and trade law in Europe and its alumni is spread all around the world holding significant positions in various shipping, banking, insurance and trade organisations.
During their recent visit to the Far East, the Head of the College, Professor Elwen Evans QC and Professor B Soyer, the Head of Shipping and Trade Law Department, found an opportunity to meet some of the Swansea LLM Alumni at Shanghai. The event, organised, on 11th October in Shanghai attracted Swansea Alumni LLM currently working in organisations such as: China Shipping, Capital Bulk Carrier (HK) Ltd, Hannover Re, Allbright, Wintell & Co, P & P Maritime Consulting Co Ltd and ICC Property and Casualty Company Ltd.
Having briefed the participants of the recent developments at Swansea, especially the opening of the Bay campus, Professor Evans QC stressed that her appointment as the Head of the College reinforces the ethos that the Department of Shipping and Trade Law is working towards, namely establishing strong ties with legal practice. Teaching is practice oriented at Swansea and our lecturers, who either have worked in legal practice or are currently acting as consultant to shipping and law firms, aim to ensure that our students receive a contemporary and practical legal education giving them the best chance in ever competitive job market.
Apart from PGT degrees in the realm of shipping and trade law, the Department also offers specialist LLM degrees in IP Law and Oil and Gas Law.
The night ended with a dinner generously hosted by the Head of the College.
