The Summer Work Placements Scheme organised by the School of Law and Department of Criminology has received an award from the Swansea Employability Academy for enhancing student employability.
Receiving the award, Dr Stuart Macdonald said, “We are very grateful to all of the local organisations that participate in this scheme. It gives our students invaluable work experience, helps them make informed decisions about their future careers, develops and enhances their skills and strengthens their CVs and employability”.
Stuart MacDonald received the award from Pro Vice-Chancellor Hillary Lappin-Scott
The scheme was established in 2008. In its first five years the scheme provided students with more than 150 placements! This year there are a total of 62 placements across 18 different organisations, including local barristers’ chambers, solicitors’ firms, Swansea Police, Swansea Crown Court, Swansea Youth Offending Service and the Youth Justice Board for Wales.
The Head of the School of Law, Professor John Linarelli added "We at Swansea place major emphasis on employability. We see work placements as a priority for enhancing student learning. Work placements connecting inquiry in the lecture theatre to action in the legal community. Stuart’s work is important to our mission".
