Michael Draper honoured with Distinguished Teaching Award

Swansea University lecturer Michael Draper has been presented with the Distinguished Teaching award which marks recognition by his peers and students of his exceptional achievements in teaching.

Michael Draper’s teaching responsibilities are primarily related to the Legal Practice Course in the School of Law. The award was presented by Swansea University Vice Chancellor, Professor Richard B Davies during the summer Degree and Award Congregation for the School of Law on Wednesday 20 July.

Professor Davies said: “It is an important feature of Swansea University degree ceremonies that, while celebrating the success of our students, we find time to acknowledge some of the outstanding staff who have contributed to this success. For a few minutes we turn the spotlight on a Distinguished Teaching Award winner. We are justifiably proud of the high quality of student experience provided at Swansea and we find that staff, graduates and parents enjoy the opportunity to express their appreciation of the very best teaching.”

Professor Noel Thompson, Head of the School of Law said: “Michael. Draper is an outstanding teacher; who excites and enthuses his students, making difficult material accessible and building their confidence through his supportive engagement with them. He epitomises the ethos of the School of Law which is that of delivering the highest quality of student experience.”

Michael Draper commented on his delight at receiving the award: “I am very happy to have been nominated for the Distinguished Teaching Award and even happier to have won the award from a prestigious University dedicated to teaching excellence – my thanks to my students and colleagues in nominating me yet again and making this award possible – it is a career landmark and highlight.”
