LPC Student wins the Lord Williams of Mostyn Scholarship

Swansea University LPC student Bethan Hodge has been awarded the Lord Williams of Mostyn Scholarship worth £5,000.  The Lord Williams of Mostyn Scholarship is jointly funded by the School of Law and the Swansea Legal Charitable Foundation.  The Swansea Legal Charitable Foundation was set up in April 1994 by local judges, barristers and solicitors to provide funding for law students who intend to practice law in Wales.

Bethan completed her Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) at Swansea University and is now undertaking the Legal Practice Course (LPC) which she will complete this July.  Bethan was presented with the award by Andrew Beale, O.B.E, Head of Department of Professional Legal studies at Swansea University and John Edmund, Chairman of the Trustees of the Swansea Legal Charitable Foundation.

Speaking after receiving the award Bethan said "It is an absolute honour to be chosen to receive the Lord Williams of Mostyn Scholarship. I am so thrilled that my hard work and dedication to all aspects of law have been recognised, especially as I faced such tough competition from the excellent students who were also short listed.  I could not have achieved all that I have over the last two years without the support of the staff here at Swansea University Law School, and I thank them enormously for their efforts in helping me to get where I am today."

Andrew Beale, O.B.E, said that "we are honoured that Lord Williams of Mostyn, who made such a distinguished contribution to the legal profession in Swansea, continues to be remembered through this annual award which is jointly funded by our Department of Professional Legal Studies and the Swansea Legal Charitable Foundation. The aim of this award is to assist students who intend to practice law in Wales after completing the LPC course at Swansea. We are delighted that Bethan became the recipient of this award resultant from her successful study on our GDL conversion programme."

John Edmund added ‘Bethan was the unanimous choice to receive this award and is a worthy winner. She is an extremely personable young lady who I feel will make an exceptional solicitor’.
