Swansea University Validated to provide the new Legal Practice Course

Swansea University has been successful in its application for validation to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

The University has been successful in its application to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to provide the new style Legal Practice Course (LPC) from September 2009.  The way that future solicitors are to be trained is changing and from 2010 all current providers of the LPC must re-apply to be authorised to teach the new course.

Swansea University has always been committed to give its students the best possible start to their professional careers so when the opportunity arose to teach this course early, the professionally qualified tutors working in the Department of Professional Legal Studies seized the initiative and put together a course to meet the new requirements of the SRA.

Following the news that the University’s application for validation had been successful (subject to the accepting of the conditions of validation), Mr Michael Draper, Director of the LPC at Swansea commented that “Consistent with our reputation for quality and innovation in professional legal education the Solicitors Regulation Authority have today announced that Swansea University will be amongst the first Institutional providers authorised to offer new style Legal Practice Courses from September 2009 based on the SRA’s new content and outcomes for LPC’s. The Swansea LPC Professional Course Team welcome the opportunity to train future solicitors for the regional and national legal market within the framework of recognised current best practice.”
