    Swansea law student wins the Lord Williams of Mostyn award.

    Nicola Horgan, 22 from Swansea has been awarded £5,000 by the Swansea Legal Charitable Foundation for academic excellence.

    The Lord Williams of Mostyn award is jointly funded by the School of Law and the Swansea Legal Charitable Foundation and is intended to assist students who intend to practice law in Wales.

    The Swansea Legal Charitable Foundation was founded in April 1994 and the trustees who consist of local judges, barristers and solicitors, have been helping Swansea law students further their law careers ever since. The Foundation’s principal objective is the ‘advancement of legal education and training in the principality of Wales.’

    John Edmund, Chairman of the Swansea Legal Charitable Foundation said: "Nicola was a worthy winner of the Lord Williams of Mostyn Scholarship from an impressive short-list of candidates interviewed by the panel of judges.

    "I feel sure she will enjoy a successful career as a solicitor."

    Nicola completed her undergraduate degree in Law at Swansea University and is now undertaking a one-year Legal Practice Course (LPC). She said: "this is a wonderful accolade to achieve. It is also a reflection on Swansea University’s Law department staff; they have been friendly, approachable and extremely helpful throughout my studies at undergraduate level. They are the reason I decided to continue my studies at Swansea University."

    Nicola will receive £5,000 from the Foundation which she plans to put towards her fees for the LPC.

    Michael Draper, Director of the Legal Practice Course at Swansea said: "It is an honour that Lord Williams of Mostyn, who made such a distinguished contribution to the legal profession in Swansea and remembered through this annual award, is associated with the Swansea Legal Practice Course and Swansea Law School students dedicated to developing the practice of law in Wales.

    "All the staff in the School of Law wish Nicola the best of luck in her future career."
