Swansea University and University of Amsterdam, in cooperation with the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, have held a two-day conference in The Hague and Amsterdam on 4-5 October 2007 to mark the 5th anniversary of the entry into force of the Rome Statute.

The conference explored four core themes: (i) the relationship of the Court to domestic jurisdictions, (ii) the policies and practice of the Office of the Prosecutor, (iii) the status and application of the Court’s applicable law; and (iv) the fairness and expeditiousness of proceedings.

The conference attracted a capacity audience on both days, bringing together members from academia, the diplomatic community, courts and tribunals and civil society. Keynote addresses were given by ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo (picture on the left) and Professor Antonio Cassese (University of Florence) (picture on the right).
